The Arab Program for Human Rights Activists History & Mission
The Arab Program for Human Rights Activists (APHRA) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, registered in Cairo as a practical
step and positive development of continuous
general and public dissection of the problems,
needs, and aspirations of the activists working
in the field of human rights in the Arab world.
The Arab Program for Human Rights Activists (APHRA) was found in 1997 as an urgent necessity to protect and promote the Concepts of Human Rights and the Democratic Values through defending the Arab Human Rights Activists and Defenders as well as serving and strengthening the Arab Human Rights Movement.

The Arab Program for Human Rights Activists constitutes an objective and actual necessity in the Arab World, as it serves human rights activists on various levels, particularly in confronting the governments` violations directed against them. The program also organizes debates and discussions on the problems and obstacles the activists facing, and the effects of those obstacles on their ability to propagate. In this context, the establishment of the APHRA was a necessity for the constant progress in this field.

The program basically aims to maintain mutual solidarity and communication between human rights activists and the establishment of effective mechanism for the protection of activists. It also seeks to build an extensive database relating to human rights activists and organizations, as well as to promote the abilities and qualifications of those activists. The promotion of the activists’ abilities and qualifications includes technical, theoretical and empirical experiences in their daily work. Furthermore, the program seeks to ensure effective coordination between human rights activists on both domestic regional and international levels through:

Conferences, Seminars & Discussion Circles.
Training & Education.
Solidarity Campaigns & Events.
Effective Communication.
Organizational Objectives Scope & Mechanisms of Work
-Creating new mechanisms for the protection of the human rights activists in the Arab world.

Documenting information about the activists, violations committed against them in the course of their activities, their experience, their experience and ways to benefit from them.

Enhancing and cementing the relationship between the activists and create new mechanisms of communication between them.

To create independent forum of discussion about the needs and the problems of the activists.

To enhance and develop programs of training theoretically and practically in different field of work and thus produce to the Arab human rights movement a pool of human rights trainers and resource persons.

To create programs for developing and modernizing ways of research, field investigation, reporting and documenting human rights violations in accordance with the international agreements and conventions.
All human rights activists within the human rights movement: within human rights organizations or working independently, being volunteers or working in paid jobs, also all workers on the Arab NGO centers, organizations and unions working in the human rights field, in addition to the members of boards of directors, council, and advisory bodies, lie within our scope of attention and are approached by our defense and support mechanisms:
Urgent Action: to document the violations against the activists and publicize on a wide range and to press the concerned authorities to stop the violations.
Publicizing: the work of the activists through media coverage, to publish books and leaflets that can form the vocal points of the activists, which in turn enable them to express their concerns, problems, and aspirations.
Issuing Reports: and quarterlies which are the vocal points of the activists in a way that can help them express their ideas and suggestions in the field as well as sharing their information and experience.
Modernization: of communication facilities to ensure speedy and direct contact between the Arab activists.
Introducing: modern means in the field of documentation and information handling to cater for the needs of the activists to build a strong base of information concerning the activists, e.g. researches, cases of violations against the activists and information about the human rights organizations.
Organizing: Symposiums, Conferences, Workshops, Seminars, and discussion circles that discuss concerns of the activists and the daily problems facing them.
Establish a library: equipped with books, documentaries, magazines, reports, and training material, as well as audio-visual resources about and for the human rights activists which can support and enhance their capacities.
Training of Trainers: which on the long run can pour into the Arab human rights movement a pool of resource persons capable of disseminating the human rights knowledge in a professional way.
